Internship

Real Floors, Inc. is the number one multifamily flooring provider in the nation. The company specializes in wholesale flooring for multifamily and commercial properties, and offers installation services through designated subcontractors. The company was founded in Atlanta in 1987 by Peter Brookner, and has since grown to include 28 branches across the south.

This summer, I worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Business Development Department at Real Floors. The Business Development team (or “Biz Dev”)  primarily handles corporate sales and works with large corporate customers such as construction companies and multifamily property management groups who manage multiple properties. This includes setting pricing, developing preferred vendor agreements, and sponsoring and attending corporate conferences and trade shows. Biz Dev also includes the Marketing team as a subsection of the department.

I worked in person at the Real Floors Corporate Headquarters in Marietta, GA, though the Business Development team is largely remote. Various team members are based out of multiple offices including Denver, Phoenix, and Charlotte, as well as remote work in Atlanta. Additionally, many members of the Business Development team travel for events and conferences so while the position is face-to-face, much of the work requires virtual teaming.

Price Sheets

Corporate Pricing and Job Aids

During my internship I was tasked with redesigning the corporate price sheets.

The updates I implemented were two-fold. First, I standardized the price sheets across all 80 accounts. Prior to the redesign, each price sheet had slightly different layouts, colors and designs, and since these price sheets are used in communication with customers, I wanted to make sure that they all followed a consistent design and branding.

Second, I implemented a series of formulas into the price sheets. Prior to my redesign, the price sheets were entirely manual. Each price sheet consists of a grid of products for each row and markets or branches across each column. Pricing is then shown on a per product/per market basis. Additionally, for each price sheet there is a worksheet where each market is designated to three columns: old price, change, and new price. This means that if a sheet includes three branches, the worksheet would have nine columns of pricing. Any time a price would change, pricing had to be adjusted on each of the two tabs and in all relevant columns. By adding formulas, the process became highly automated, which made them more user friendly and easier to manage as well as decreasing the amount of error.

In addition to the redesign, I also created Job Aids to be used in the creation of future price sheets.

PMG Lookbook

Products and Specifications

The Business Development department at Real Floors is also intertwined with the marketing department. As such it is important that we develop materials that can be utilized in communication with customers and clients.

As such, one of the projects I worked on was a look book for a potential future client. This look book included side-by-side comparisons of each of the products they were considering using as well as all details and specifications about each product.

Branding Guidelines

Branding and Communication Style Guide

Throughout the other two projects in my internship, I noticed a lack of consistent branding across multiple documents and types of materials, including those which were being presented to customers.

Prior to my internship, the branding guidelines were minimal and outdated, only detailing logo specifics and email signatures, all of which included options for branding which is no longer permitted at the company. As a result, I designed a new set of Branding and Communication Guidelines which not only included updated logo and email signature information, but also expanded the style guide to include communication guidelines detailing things such as tone, approved photos, social media and verbiage.
