TRAINING PROGRAM
YMCA Exercise Instruction
The purpose of this assignment was to gain experience using common software used in industry as well as to gain experience completing common tasks provided by clients in the field of technical communication. Specifically, we were tasked with working with a real world manager and client to help solve a problem within an organization using multimedia.
I, along with my product development team member Charlotte Dungan, was tasked with creating creating an exercise training program for the YMCA which would allow members of the organization to learn how to properly complete several exercise movements during times when trainers were not available to help on location. The program needed to be able to both teach the information and test users without losing their interest, as well as be detailed enough to help inform users on the best way to execute these exercises without causing injury.
The target audience for this product was elderly members of the YMCA, members who take advantage of "early bird" facility hours, and general members of the YMCA.
We completed the task using Adobe Audition to record and edit the audio as well as add music and other special effects, Adobe Premier Pro to edit videos, Sketch to create storyboards and prototypes, Adobe Spark to create image collages to be used as visuals, and Adobe Captivate to create the quizzes and general website.
This assignment allowed me to gain a greater understanding of what products I may be asked to create for clients in the field, as well as to gain familiarity with software commonly used in industry. It also allowed me to gain experience working with a client within a team, specifically a team in which not all members were local. This gave me a greater understanding of how to communicate with members of a team or project who were not on site. Additionally, I was able to gain a better understanding of how to complete a task set by a client and evaluate my own ability to complete large scale projects within a given time frame under set criteria.
